PRODUCTION OF ORGANIC ACID FROM ORGANIC SALT USING BIPOLAR ELECTRODIALYZER TECHNOLOGY

INDION Bipolar Electrodialyzer system are composed of sets of an ion exchange membrane, such as an anion exchange membrane and a cation exchange membrane.

Organic acids and alkali are produced by supplying organic acid salt (weak acid salt) into the 2 or 3 compartment INDION Bipolar Electro dialyzer stack which combines anion, cation and bipolar membrane. Anions will permeate through the anion exchange membrane and combine with the H+ ions which then get split at the bipolar membrane to produce acid. Simultaneously, cations will permeate through the cation exchange membrane and combine with the OH- ions which then get split at the bipolar membrane to produce alkali (NaOH). Bipolar membranes are chemically stable over various kinds of chemicals in case of variation in feed conditions.

INDION Bipolar Electrodialyzer system also reduces load on Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) & results in saving of ETP cost. INDION Bipolar Electrodialyzer membrane requires low electric resistance thus offering lower plant operation costs.
